The Color Run!

On Saturday August 4, 2012 I ran my first ever 5k, The Color Run. When we got there there were THOUSANDS of people everywhere!! Many had costumes, tutus, wigs, etc. A lot of craziness! I was waiting in line to start running for over an hour. There were THAT many people at this event.

When it was my groups turn to go we were off! The first color we ran into was Yellow (1k). It was so powdery and I could barely breathe! The next color was Orange (2k) but it wasn’t bad. When we got to the water station they yelled “Keep going! You are half way there!” WHAT??! Half way already?? I wasn’t even that tired! Hard to believe I already ran 1.5 miles! When I got to the next color Burgundy (3k) I was starting to feel it. And I was definitely tired when I got to the last color Blue (4k).

Throughout the run I had to run around people and walk a couple times because it was so packed. But the last 200 meters or so I booked it! I picked it up and ran fast!! I guess it’s the track & field training that was drilled into me. No matter how tired I can always find some kind of energy to push myself at the end.

At the end they gave out granola bars, had music playing, and people were throwing their color packets in the air, covering people in MORE color!! It was awesome!

I am proud to say I successfully ran 3.1 miles and lived to tell the tale! Well technically 3.24 miles since running around people made my run a little longer. I completed it in 42 minutes. Its kind of hard to say what my exact time was because of the crowds and I had to wait for traffic to pass. I can’t wait for my next 5k in November: Run To Feed The Hungry!

My boyfriend and his dad joined me! So much fun. I can’t wait to do this again next year.

Changes & New Running Shoes!

So when I went to the gym on Tuesday, I was at the free weights area with the mirrors. I looked at myself and I actually LIKED WHAT I SAW! I saw someone that was toned and a little bit slimmer. I even noticed that day that my workout top was looser on me, when it was tight 6 weeks ago. Progress!

As of last week I have lost 1/2″ on my hips, arms, legs, and 1″ from my waist. It is such a slow process to lose weight! But I did gain this weight over a span of 8 years. I’m gonna be honest, I hate stepping on the scale. But this time it shows I’ve lost 2lbs in a week. I guess I’m doing something right!

Here is a pic of me leg pressing 360+ lbs (I don’t know if you count the bar or not?). Four 45lb plates on each side! Woooo!

Last Saturday my boyfriend took me on jog at our college and he showed me the path he used in his jogging class. I ran 2 miles! TWO. MILES. I’ve never run for that long in my life! It took me 25 minutes, 20 seconds. I am so proud of myself that I did it! I could have probably run longer but don’t get me wrong, I was DEAD tired. Afterwards I went to a running store and got some running shoes fitted.

The guy who helped me was VERY knowledgeable. He watched how I walked, ran, he took measurements of my feet while sitting and while standing. He had me try on 3 different shoes: one had a lot of arch support and padding, one had less arch support and less padding, but I picked the one that was a happy medium of the two.

These are my new Asics running shoes 🙂 My shin splints aren’t as painful now and I love how supportive and cushion-y they are! Not my first choice in color, but it’s fine.

H.A.M Week

So my bf decided (for the both of us) that we should just go H.A.M (Hard As A Motherf***er) for one week in the gym. That week is this week. This consists of:

M/W: 30 minutes treadmill, 1 hour elliptical, abs

T/TH: 30 minutes treadmill, 1 hour elliptical, leg press, bench, curls

After 2 days of this I can say that I. AM. TIRED. More like exhausted really, and boooyyyy am I sore! I don’t even want to go to the gym today. And the bf pretty much made himself sick from working out so hard. This is pure torture people!

Anywhooo, I will be taking my weight and measurements this Saturday morning to see if I have lost anything this past week. *crosses fingers* I swear if that number goes up on the scale I am going to go straight loco on someone’s candy ass.

On a happier note, I can now do 3 sets of 5 on the bench press at 105lbs! ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE POUNDS. Rawr!!! I’m getting stronger and I’m loving it!

On a sadder note, I have on-again, off-again shin splints. Yesterday was on-again. I am definitely getting new running shoes this Saturday (I just had to wait for Mr. Paycheck) 🙂

I’ve been trying to train for this 5k, but I’ve been running into shin splints issues (no pun intended lol). I took a break from running most of last week to heal my shins and then I decide to run a mile on the treadmill yesterday. I was feeling slight pain in my shins afterwards, and now this morning they are worse! What the f*ck?!

I am never going to be able to run a 5k if I keep getting shin splints like this. I may need to take advice from you readers and get fitted for shoes! I HAVE to. I cannot stand having this pain anymore and all it’s doing is setting me back from running.

I am going to go as soon as possible! This is so frustrating!

Shin Splints!

As I was running on the treadmill on Tuesday I felt SHARP pain on the inside of my lower legs, between my calves and shins. The pain was intense and throbbing. I tried to walk it off and then try to do interval sprints but the pain was too much so I had to stop. FREAKING. SHIN SPLINTS. Because I have shin splints right now I haven’t been able to do my leg press workouts or run for the past 2 days. *sigh* This has set me back a little and it’s frustrating. I guess my body is telling me that I need to rest. I’ve also been icing it for the past 2 days.

What’s even more frustrating is that I haven’t officially lost any weight. Have I gained muscle? Aabsolutely. I’M BENCHING 100LBS NOW! My theory is that as of right now I’ve replaced fat with some muscle which is why my weight hasn’t gone down. Even though I haven’t lost weight, I am going to start taking measurements and see if I am losing inches.

Gotta keep moving and stay motivated!

6/19 Workout

So my bf has me on this running schedule that seemed pretty hard to me, and today was Day 1. Sad to say that I only made it through half my workout. I was mad, upset, frustrated, and all kinds of irritated. I was so disappointed with myself and I was almost ready to cry in the gym. I have these high expectations for myself and I want to do all these things right now, but I need to understand that I have to work up to it. *sigh* Tomorrow is another day…

Strength & Progress

If you guys remember my last post I talked about doing a weight lifting routine that requires you to lift 90% of your max and do 3 sets of 5. My leg press weight is still at 320lbs, but my bench press went up 10lbs! I’m now benching 90lbs! My mini-goal is to hit 100lbs. In high school my max bench weight was 135lbs, so if I can surpass that, that will be so amazing!

As far as the running game goes I haven’t been running the past 4 days because of Memorial Day Weekend. I will continue to do my Tabata training tonight and in a couple weeks I will be running for distance hardcore. I only have 9 more weeks until my 5k! If I can even run 2 miles non-stop I’ll be happy. I was never a long distance runner. So for me to go from running a mile straight to anything more than that is a definite improvement.

Other than that I’ve been working out at least 4-5 days a week, though I’m not seeing any physical changes, which is sort of depressing =( But I heard it takes 12 weeks for you to see changes in  yourself, so I just have to keep working hard and eventually I will get there!
